Ojude Oba: The Ijebus Well Preserved and Celebrated Festival

 Ojude Oba festival is an annual festival celebrated by the Yoruba people of Ijebu Ode, Ogun.

The festival is always a colourful celebration that showcases the rich culture and ancestry of the Ijebu people.

The festival which usually holds on the second day of Eid-el-kabir, the Muslim festival of sacrifice was to pay homage to the king, Awujale of Ijebu Ode.

The literal translation of "Ojude Oba" in English is "King's palace". 

The festival aims at the bringing the sons and daughters of Ijebu from both home and abroad together to reconnect and reunite.

Some of the activities that makes the event colourful is the parade of the age grades (regberegbe) in their different colourful attires and also the parade of the adorned horses by the influential families.

This year's Ojude Oba was nothing short of spectacular. Pictures and videos of the event has been going viral on the internet.

The stand out ones that are worthy of mentioning include the lady with the" D&G" glasses decked with gold and traditional accessories. 

Another worthy of mention is Mr Farooq Oreagba, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NG Clearing Limited who appeared like a don in his green and yellow Agbada with Yoruba traditional beads and a smartwatch and a cigar in hand on an adorned horse to pay homage to the Awujale of Ijebu Ode
